Magazine conventions are the format that magazine publishers use create their publication.
Magazine Layout Conventions-
Front Page:
Masthead- Name of the magazine in large, bold letters usually seen on the left-hand corner of the page or across the whole top of the page
Main Image- Photograph of a person, place, or thing, used as the background and pertains to the genre of the magazine.. Image tells the audience the focus of the article.
Barcode- In fine print on the left or right hand bottom of the magazine, indicating the date and issue number of the publication
Buzz words- Usually bold appealing words like "exclusive" across a corner of the magazine to further hook potential readers
Tag lines- Catchy slogans, usually a punchline ore joke that is the mantra of the magazine.
Anchor Text- Text that tells what the main image is about
Cover lines- Writing that gains the audience's interest. Central cover line is linked to the main image and the smaller cover lines is arranged around the main image.;
Puff/Plugs-Advertisement of something included in the magazine, such as a poster
Set house style- Set of 3-5 fonts and colors used throughout the magazine
Contents Page:
Anecdote/ Personal Statement- Section written by the editor of their experiences since the last magazine issue and of creating the cover of one.
Set house style- Fonts and colors remains consistent with the cover page
Bold page numbers
No empty spaces
Contents are organized in column for easier navigation and aesthetics
Subheadings- Used to group articles in sections according to similar content
Photographs related to the content of the main articles
